GlobalProtect VPN provides secure, encrypted access to our internal network from your Windows PC. This article explains how to connect to VPN, authenticate with Okta, switch regional gateways, and resolve common connection issues.
NOTE: You must have Okta Verify Two-Factor Authentication configured before connecting to the VPN. You can set up your Okta 2FA by following How to set up Okta Verify on your mobile device
Not getting the Okta Verify push notification? Try restarting your mobile phone or reinstalling the app.
Directions for Connecting to VPN:
- Click the small arrow that is located at the bottom right section of the taskbar to find the little globe (GlobalProtect) icon. Then click on the Globe.
- You should then be presented with an option to connect.
- After clicking connect your default browser will open Okta for authentication. If already logged in, you will be prompted by a Windows Hello window for your fingerprint or for your computer password. GlobalProtect automatically opens an Okta login page if you are not logged in.
- After entering your fingerprint for Windows Hello or entering your computer password, the browser will redirect you to a Palo Alto screen asking you to allow it to open the GlobalProtect. We recommend you tick the box to not be prompted again and click Open GlobalProtect.
You can switch to a different gateway (region) by selecting it from the drop-down menu as shown:
- The VPN is set to automatically associate a Gateway based on your region, but this can be manually chosen (as previously demonstrated.)
NOTE:
- There may be circumstances when your laptop sleeps, you close the lid, transfer to different floors or access points, etc which may log you out from the VPN. This will then require you to log back in again.
- You'll typically only get an Okta Verify prompt once per day - or when you connect to a different region.
- Once connected, click on the star icon to set your preferred gateway. Once set, the star will be gold.
- If you would like to change your preferred gateway, click on the star icon again so it changes to a clear color, then select another gateway to connect to using the previous step.
